Help! My Life is Upside Down!! How to Get Some Clarity on Which Direction to Go Now…

Do you ever have that “my life is a mess” feeling? When your life is a mess and you’re looking to get some clarity and direction, this one trick always helps me feel better (and more focused).

What to do when your life is just a mess

When things are so all over the place that I feel like I can’t get my bearings, I talk to one of my best friends.

She loves me with all her heart and only wants the best for me.

She gives it to me straight, lifts me up when I doubt myself, and gets right to heart of the issue.

Yeah…it’s me.

Not the me that is currently panicking. The future me.

The one who is looking from a place of years past, and has the perspective of time gone. That is usually how I assess what I’m currently experiencing, and figure out how it figures into the priorities of my life.

Sometimes I just talk to her. Sometimes I write a letter from her.

It’s a wonderful exercise to do. You may even be surprised at what your future self has to say.

How to Write a Letter to Myself

When I’m struggling with life, I write a letter to myself from a soothing place of perspective. This helps me to feel more aligned with my priorities. It also helps to guide me and help me stop being a hot mess. 😉

Here’s a typical letter that I would write to myself:

Dear Natalie,

I just wanted to let you know that you are doing just fine! So stop panicking.

Here’s the thing. I’m you…so I know you…and I know you are just going to carry a certain measure of anxiety.

But please. Try not to so much. Because I truly believe you will regret this.

It’s ok to have some butterflies – that energy can motivate you. But keep returning to your Why. Your personal why.

It’s worth it to work backwards from your goal to see the steps necessary to get there.

Draw it out, write it out. In detail. Envision it. What is it you want for your life?

You feel panicked cause you don’t want to miss out on your dream, but you also don’t want to be so laser focused that you miss out on the life that is happening around you right now.

There HAS to be balance. But I’m telling you that these things CAN absolutely work together.

I know the feeling that you’ve got to push yourself right now. This is the time. You don’t have that much time left. You don’t want to look back and think…I wish I had just pushed little bit more, or worked a little bit harder.

But if you can honestly say that you are working hard, and you are still not quite reaching your deadlines…

It’s ok.

The universe is working to prepare space for you. So just keep moving forward with intention, and come from a mindset and place of mental abundance, so that you are ready to meet the moment when it is right.

Oh and another thing…

You need to start taking better care of yourself.

I know you think to yourself that every hour is precious time that you could be working, but remember that you are an ‘inspired’ person.

And in order to get inspired you need to have quiet, and down time, experiences, and opportunities.

Don’t glorify being busy.

Be more purposeful, intentional, smart with your time and let inspiration come.

If that means that it has to take longer for you, then do that. Make sure you come from a place of prepared ease. That is when the magic flows through you.

Give yourself a break.

This has been a more than difficult year.  Your progress may not be where you wanted it to be, but its where it needs to be.

Find patience and joy in your efforts. When you start to find yourself getting testy, pause and reflect. I don’t mean that every day is going to be sunny, but recognize when its just a rainy day, and when there is a storm brewing.

I guess the easiest way to say it is…Remember what this thing called Life is all about.

I love you and you are awesome.

Natalie

How do I stop being a hot mess?

There are a few tricks to stop being a hot mess.

  1. Take better care of yourself
  2. Don’t glorify busy
  3. Give yourself a break

Sometimes you may need a reminder (or several) and that’s ok. Life is all about the journey, not the destination. You’ve got this!
